Australia, one of the countries with the strictest biosecurity regulations in the world, implements special seasonal measures every year between September and April against the risk of the brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB, scientifically known as Halyomorpha halys) threatening its agricultural sector.

Australia takes the BMSB issue very seriously. It is estimated that if one insect enters the country, it could cause billions of dollars in damage to the agricultural sector (especially to products such as fruits and vegetables, nuts, and grapes). Therefore, using pre-approved treatment providers, uploading the correct certificates, and effectively using the AusTreat portal are vital in the 2025-2026 season as well.
The new ethyl formate option is promising, especially for chemically sensitive loads. However, since the transition period is ongoing, most importers still prefer the classic heat treatment or methyl bromide route. For more details and the current list, see the official source:
